I found the perfect challenge. A combination of photography and fitness (2 of my favorite things). People that know me know that health and fitness are a big part of my life. Some would say I'm obsessed. I say passionate.
I'm just now recovered (almost 100%) from a stress fracture and then surgery. My last race was in Sept of 2010 and my last run was in Oct. That is way too long! Telling me I can't run is like telling me I can't eat. I was able to strength train the entire time I was recovering :)
I have short term goals with the final goal being to run the Chicago Marathon in October.
Homework: Create a schedule (February 6 - February 12)
Sunday: Chest and Back, Ab Ripper
Monday: Run 5 miles
Tuesday: Shoulders and Arms, Ab Ripper,
Wednesday: Yoga
Thursday: Legs and Back, Ab Ripper, Run 4 miles
Friday: Kenpo
Saturday: Run 6 miles, Stretch
I use P90X for all cross training.
My challenge check in Week 1 (January 31 - February 5):
Your weight {if you don't feel comfortable sharing this, you don't have to}: 107
Your fitness challenge(s) for the week: Being able to fit running back into my life.
Your food challenge for the week: Last week was my first week back running and after recovery it needs to be gradual. So, due to an unusually stressful week, when I would normally run to relieve stress I snacked mindlessly.
How well did it go: Not bad. My running schedule needs to be tweaked around my husband's new work schedule and being mom.
Failures and slip-ups: The stress eating.
Weekly challenge wisdom: Don't be too hard on yourself for the slip ups. (I need to take my own advice.) Research says that if you're hard on yourself for the slip ups you're less likely to stay committed to your goals. Accept that some weeks will not be perfect. Make changes if needed. And move on to stay motivated.
Advice to fellow GET FIT members: Find a workout partner that has similar goals to yours. This really works great if you're just starting out.
The self portrait homework: "past self portrait" of what YOU STRIVE to look like!
Kind of a stretch (no pun intended) for the homework but at this point this is where I want to be. Back to running.

so glad you are finally getting back to where you want to be with your fitness. My word for this year is challenge and one of the ways i want to challenge myself is with my weight and my lack of energy. I need to loose about 30 pounds and have finally decided to start going to the gym (thanks to my mom who is giving me the membership). When I feel like I can't do it I'll definitely think of the motivation I see in you and hopefully that will inspire me to keep on with challenging myself.

Thanks for posting. Best of luck with getting back into running. I was sidelined from running for about 3 months and I got back into it with the Couch to 5k and P90X. Gotta love Tony.
