What is the appeal that surpasses the "young adults" and includes moms, dads, not quite young adults yet, grandparents, SAHMs and professionals?
Admittedly some of the success can be attributed to smart marketing.
But, there has to be something more to a book that makes me want to read the series again, stand in line for hours to see the movie, eager for the next release and own a Team Edward t-shirt.
What do you think it is? What is the appeal?
I've often wondered the same thing. Just what does make one series so infectious it rivals the latest virus but another fall into the vast unknown? I own all the books but have yet to read them. I have not seen the movie. I'm not sure what is holding me back. Well, actually, I do. Time. Or the lack there of. I also believe I would be one of the obsessed if Keri was home. She is a huge fan and this is the type of thing we would have shared.
BTW, I love the links to past posts at the end of your entry! Too, too cool! Hope you have a great Wednesday!

For me the draw was really in Character development, plus a great love suspence is always a grabber. Edwards love for Bella and hatred for himself made this story a hit. The Movie was first made a hit by the readers and then by the gorgeous face of Robert Pattinson, mix a face and character like that and you've got a block buster.

I speculated this on my blog,
I really think it is Edward, how he loves and sacrifices for Bella, it just struck a chord. In this day and age when guys pretty much 'use' girls, and don't commit, here is a man (good looking one, also) who is willing to die to himself for her.
He is the Rhett Butler of this age.
