Totally obsessing about this right not...
13 Reasons to Discontinue My Gym Membership and Set Up a Home Gym
- I need to be more consistent with my strength training and my current at-the-gym isn't working.
- Convenience.
- Economical in the long run.
- I have collected training programs from magazines that I can use to set up a routine and make changes to avoid getting bored.
- I skip going to the gym most often because of the distance to drive.
- I'm the only one in the family that has a membership so some of the things I'm paying for don't get used, i.e. the pool, child care, etc.
- Time is often limited and I spend about 45 minutes driving round trip if I go to the gym.
- The gym's run club is pretty much non-existent.
- We have the space.
- I like the social aspect of running and working out. That was a big plus at the gym but now I get the same support from a running club that meets 2-3 times a week.
- I get the impression home gyms rarely work out as planned but I was told by 3 people I'm the most disciplined person they know and if I decide to do this I will.
- I have 30-days from the time I cancel my membership to decided with minimal loss.
- The flexibility of not having to skip a workout just because the day was busy.
Yes, although not as long, there is a list of reasons to keep my gym membership too.
Hmm. This is a hard decision for lots of people I think. I like to go out to exercise because I like to talk while I work out.

Great list - I see you are probably a list maker, listing the pros and cons before making a decision. Very organized too. Have a great day!

I just did the same thing (cancel my gym membership). I feel like I get more out of having activities close and available when I need them. Pros and cons are a great way to help the decisions!
Good luck!

Just don't let the convenience become something that can be ignored. I can't tell you how many pieces of equipment I have in storage right now. Just got one of them out a few days ago, and it's still sitting in the van.

Gym memberships have never worked out for me. I end up never going and wasting money every month. I have free weights and other assorted equipment at home. I get so much more out of doing circuit training at home. The biggest plus is not having to spend time getting there and back.

A lot of people I know buy equipment and then don't use it.

Commuting is something I can't do without difficulty. I'm sure whatever decision you make on this one will work out just fine. Here's to good health!

Good list... As someone who has a relatively untouched home gym, I am not a good one to give advice! Sigh. But you did give me some motivation to get down there again--though with the weather and walking, plus yard work,I probably won't use it again until the fall...
Good luck with your decision!
