A Running Lexicon
Actually it's a Run Like A Mother Lexicon. If you're a female runner you're probably familiar with this fabulous site. Information. Tips. Inspiration. And humor.
Recently readers submitted their personal running slang and the Run Like a Mother Lexicon was created. Here are a few that I can totally relate to (or that made me laugh).
Barely better than nothing (BBTN): description of just got-out-there run.
Buble effect: when a song sneaks its way into your iPod and puts you to sleep/mellows out your run as fast as a Michael Buble song.
Character builders: hill workouts, any speed work over 400 meters, or runs in extreme heat/cold.
Cycling Cassanova: guys biking on the trails with waaaaaay too much cologne on. (Or who are waaaaay to into themselves and their overlogo’ed jerseys.)
Dory run: tough run, where just getting through it is a victory. Stems from moving Finding Nemo, where Dory says, “Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.”
Dreadmill: affectionate term for the treadmill.
LPPM: Last Possible Pee Moment. Occurs right before you head out the door.
Noassatall: condition the rears of runners get from too many miles. Antonym: A J-Lo.
Puke pace: self-explanatory. The goal during most speed workouts.
Rumace: running andgrimacing. Often up a hill.
Run for the roses: marathon in which athlete attempts to qualify for Boston.
Sloggun: slippery, soggy runs on the snow-covered, icy, melting trails or streets.
Therapy session: going for a run.
What personal slang can you add to the list? Do you have a term that applies specifically to a run, workout or running gear?
(And because I can't have a blog post without a photo. My new favorite running spot. This trail made 15, 17, and 20 miles possible this summer.)
In Dallas when we talk about the Dolly Partons, it is just understood that we are talking about the two dreaded hills around mile 24 of the marathon!
Dreadmill is my favorite!
Love this.

Very cute! I'm a runner too and we used to always say, "those who run are running away from something" which I thought echoed your therapy session sentiment :).
