Virtual races...my latest obsession! I love the idea that all over the country other, in this case, women are running the same race. Women I've never met. Women that share one thing, whether a passion or a new interest, running.
My first virtual race is Fuelbelt's 'Hydration Hustle' 5k. The race is hosted by Moms Run This Town (how can you go wrong with a name like that!) as part of their Virtual Insanity 5k - Virtual Race Series.
The stats:
When: July 4th
Where: Lakota East High School
What: Run 4 Liberty 5k
Temperature: start 68; finish 68
Finish Time: as per the rules of the July Fuelbelt race (I really need a new Fuelbelt!) I won't share my time but I will say I beat my goal and set a new PR! Love that feeling :)
The photos:
Mothers Run This Town asked what do you do to hydrate? To stay cool during a run? Fortunately, for this race, the weather was perfect so staying hydrated was not difficult.
Typically, during summer training I do 2 things to manage hydration as much as possible, 1) early morning runs (the earlier the better) and 2) depending on the distance I run with a 2-bottle or 4-bottle Fuelbelt. It's the only way to be able to go the distance during the summer. And a tip, freeze the bottles overnight. The cold water is temporary because it melts so quickly, but while it lasts it is so refreshing!
So what's next on my virtual race calendar? Hotter Than Hades Virtual Half Marathon.

I am really going to look into the virtual race concept. I love the idea - I am a bit of a loner and live so far away from what feels like the rest of the world... sounds like a great way to stay motivated and yet focused on something besides direct competition, too.

Hi Ren. Give it a try. I'm lovin' it for a nice change in day to day runs.

Congrats on beating your goal! This "virtual race" concept thing is brand new to me. What is that? Where you run on your own and then report your time back, or just run by yourself while other bloggers do the same? I really need to get on track with running, but there is just no time. I am one of those who refuses to wake up early enough to get going in the morning.

Hi Kim. The virtual races have been great for a change in my day to day training runs. Yes. You run by yourself and other running bloggers are doing the same distance (or whatever is specific for that race) and then you submit your entry that meets the guidelines. Often there are prizes but it's fun to do even if there aren't.
I'm a morning person so the earlier the better (and cooler!). And early morning runs are almost never interrupted!

Virtual races are great. It's fun to join people in a shared goal and it can turn a training run into something a little bit more exciting.

Jill, I keep hearing about these virtual races and I must confess I am intrigued. I need to check this out. I also love your photos. You are always so happy in them!
