In lieu of (in addition to is more likely) my rest day, that is actually a Stretch X day, I'm joining the Plank A Day Revolution.
Goal: perform a 1 minute (or more) plank once an hour from 8am to 8pm
Reasons to join....
- The timing is perfect. Do the hourly challenge now before I go back to work next week.
- Just for fun.
- A physical therapist recently told me the benefits of planks for more than just abs.
- It's one of the best core/abdominal exercises and it's not a crunch.
- I've been fitness challenge obsessed this summer.
A short how-to and plank variations here Perfecting the Plank.
What are your favorite abdominal exercises?
I'll have to try that sometime!! I've recently done some 2 song ab workouts as part of my workouts at the Y. You do a series of 4 different exercises and you do it over two upbeat songs to keep you going strong. It's fun!

you are a rock star! I am terrible because I try to avoid planks even though I KNOW how good they are for me...I like any type of ab exercise on the ball! or anything that works the obliques! hope the challenge goes well :)

Hi Jill, I love your weekly diet plan!! It gives me some great ideas. I also love Kashi cereal. I love to eat the GoLean Crisp, Toasted Berry Crumble dry as a snack.

Sounds fun! The music would keep me distracted from how long a minute feels like :)

WTG Tara! How is it going?
Posted by: jillconyers | July 24, 2011 at 07:15 PM
Sounds like a really fun challenge! Maybe I'll do that when I have a weekend without plans. I was so inspired that I wanted to start it right away, but realized that my coworkers might think me crazy... ;)
How did it go?

I loved the challenge! It's not as easy as I thought it sounded. By about plank # 11 it was tough. I go back to work next week after a wonderful summer break and I think I'm going to try it at work. Just for the fun of it. To see what people say LOL
Now, I'm doing a plank a day to see how much I can increase the time. I'm up to 90 secs!
Let me know if you try it and how it goes.

Oh this challenge looks great! I've been working up to a 3 min plank during my bootcamp and it is so hard... But has done wonders for my lower back pain! This challenge may just help me reach my goal. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Lori. A 3 minute plank would be awesome! I'm up to 2.5 minutes :)
How do you like the boot camp? Good luck with your goal. The plank-a-day will definitely help.
