One Little Word | Embrace [who I am]
One little word can have a big impact on your life. A journey shared.
A glimpse of One Little Word 2011. August.
August turned out to be the month that put my OLW progress to the test. Embracing who I am was challenged by life not working out according to my plans. Training schedule interruptions. The busyness of back to school. Returning to school routines.
I found that I easily slipped back into the [bad] habit of wanting things to be perfect and feeling frustrated when they weren't. It was too much imperfection at one time. But, this time, there was a difference. This time I realized what I was doing to myself AND I made a conscious effort to stop the irrational thinking. What seemed to help the most was when I was being hard on myself I tried to remember how I feel after a workout or run. Confident. Strong. Happily exhausted. At peace. Remember I'm the same person in this picture whether I'm running/working out or not.
So, relax, put your feet up and visit the blog hop blogs for a glimpse of the journeys of One Little Word 2011.

Catching yourself is probably the hardest part of the whole journey. Kudos to you!

and yet another thought provoking post from you.
happiness is knowing what you want and doing the things to get it.
that is what your words made me think of.
not going for the quick feel good...but knowing what it is that truly brings one the confidence to embrace who they are.
o.k...i'll stop now.
glad i stopped by.

I love what you've shared. I think I have been going through some very similar things however I hadn't thought of it as expecting things to be perfect, but I do think that is exactly what it is. The other night I had a little epiphany on how to handle it and that was just to accept that things might be messy & frustrating for awhile while we get used to going back to school compounded by the fact that I have two kids in the pre-adolescent/adolescent stage of life. I am having to use the same way of thinking I did when they were babies and toddlers - they are going to be like this awhile (like not sleeping through the night but now it is forgetting to clean up after themselves and talking back!) and I'm just going to accept that for awhile until they get through this time in their lives. Yesterday was a much calmer day for everyone! Amazing how much a little attitude shift can do, huh? Good job on your assignment and thanks for sharing.

You are a remarkable woman. I understand what you mean about the frustrations of too much imperfection. I guess it's all about balance and remembering what makes us truly happy.

Congrats on stopping your negative thoughts! That's very inspiring! I've got to pay more attention to my own thoughts, maybe that will help me de-stress.

I think we all slip into the perfection mode, the key is stopping it before it gets out of hand. Good for you in catching it!

Love your photo - you have great knees LOL .... no really you do. I do beat myself up when the odd wheel falls of the well oiled machine and think that perfection is yet again out of reach and if only I could grab it again all would be okay - it is a girl thing I wonder? Why do we do this to ourselves? I'm trying very hard to embrace being imperfect and happy at the same time. Good luck with your journey.

Your words and experience are so true. When school started for us, and life got really going, I felt myself slipping into old, out of control, cluttered ways. It was great to recognize it, so that I didn't loose all control of all that I've worked toward with my OLW, clear.
I really need to join in your fitness Friday. I really enjoyed my 5k and I'm enjoying the clarity that I'm gaining from running. I'll be back.....
