A glimpse of One Little Word 2011. August.

August turned out to be the month that put my OLW progress to the test. Embracing who I am was challenged by life not working out according to my plans. Training schedule interruptions. The busyness of back to school. Returning to school routines.

I found that I easily slipped back into the [bad] habit of wanting things to be perfect and feeling frustrated when they weren't. It was too much imperfection at one time. But, this time, there was a difference. This time I realized what I was doing to myself AND I made a conscious effort to stop the irrational thinking. What seemed to help the most was when I was being hard on myself I tried to remember how I feel after a workout or run. Confident. Strong. Happily exhausted. At peace. Remember I'm the same person in this picture whether I'm running/working out or not.

I'm not sure about this but I'm willing to try...

Taking self portraits. I don't hesitate when it comes to taking photos of my husband and kids, friends, family and even perfect strangers, but when it comes to me it just feels awkward. 

Share the self portraits. I'm actually going to attempt joining 52 Weeks of Me to share my the self portraits on my blog instead of keeping them hidden on my hard drive. We'll see how it goes. Who knows? I might even print a few.
