For the clean edit I used Deep Clean 1 & 2 at Everyday Elements. Adjusted layers to taste and deleted a few layers not needed. I'm learning a lot and happy to be able to do a more editing on my own but the actions are faster. 

Now to pick a favorite to print.

Started with ACR to adjust

Then I applied Sweet Bakery Glazes II (Coffee Shop) and Sugar Cookies (Paint the Moon) both with adjusted layers to taste.

Yes. I'm a big fan of actions. A few of my favorites are Rita's at the Coffee Shop, Amanda's at Everyday Elements (she's a great teacher too), My Four Hens (a sale with all actions and bundles 50% off), Paint the Moon and Pioneer Woman.

Loved learning a new approach to cropping! Thanks Ashley.

With an arms-length self photo it was impossible to compose the photo SOOC. I think the crop narrowed the focus nicely. I mostly played with trying to correct the lighting created by having to use the flash. It's still not perfect but the more I edited I lost too much detail and it was just over done. So I deleted layers and this is the final edit. 

I'm curious. What would you have done differently with the lighting?

I couldn't decide which edit I liked best. I love the basic edit that was primarily focused on the contrast of colors. And in the second edit I love effect of the desaturation and overlay. What is your favorite?

I enjoyed playing (and learning) with the color fill layer. Endless possibilities. Thank you Jill and Ashley!

I tried for a "red" shot that I liked. No luck. So, I'm editing a photo for another photography challenge, Project 64: Out of the Box, and the theme is GRAY.

I edited using a combination of steps from Ashley's previous edits. I need to find a convenient way to keep track of my editing so I can share my process. I played with the hue/saturation after watching the video and but I ended up deleting the layers. Definitely a technique I will try again. I'm looking forward to Shoot and Edit: HEARTS next week.

Another week of learning and practice :)

And after getting the great advice and tips on blogging photos via flickr I'm giving it a try this week. I was losing color and sharpness some where in the process of saving for the web and blogging. Let's see if flickr helps. 

Edited: Flickr makes a huge difference!! The blogged photos via flickr have better color and clarity. Thank you for the tips and suggestions.

Shoot and Edit | Week 2

Thanks to a snow day I had time to play this morning. I followed Ashley's processing steps with adjustments. I love how the final edit significantly improved lighting and color as well as enhanced the details of the frozen fruit. I've learned so much in just 2 weeks. So far, my favorite new-to-me has been using the high pass filter and the solid color fill. 

Question: Does anyone else lose some of the vibrance and color when posting an image on your blog? Any suggestions as to why or how to fix? Is it something I'm doing or not doing?

More playing [practicing] with textures. The process for this edit was based on Kim Klassen's Adding Texture (staycation) Elements Version tutorial. I still have a lot to learn but I'm happy with how this turned out.

A New Challenge and Wordless Wednesday

2010 is coming to an end and that means 2 things. 1) I needed to decide on my One Little Word (inspired by Ali Edwards beginning in 2007) for 2011 and 2) pick a year-long photography project. Last Thursday morning at a time when I wasn’t even really thinking about either of these I came up with a plan. 

My One Little Word for 2011 is 

My year-long photography project [and challenge] for 2011 is One Little Word | Captured.

EMBRACE [who I am] was inspired mostly by something that happened recently that made me truly realize my unattainable quest for perfection sabotages of my efforts, joy and accomplishments and not long after that I overheard my son ask his dad, "why do you think mom doesn't like pictures of herself?". 

Also inspired by 3 women that I have followed closely for more than a year that were instrumental in getting me here. To this point in my life. Tracey Clark. Brene Brown. Ali Edwards.
